Shannonside Parishes take action to protect property

Parishes across the Shannonside region are taking steps to protect goods and property on church grounds.

A number of cars were broken into at churches in Aughavas and Mohill churches in recent weeks while on Saturday eight cars were targeted at Castlerhan church in Cavan.

Last year, a decision was taken to install CCTV at St Patrick’s church, Drumshanbo following a break in at the church and at the car-park.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Fr.Frankie Murray said the cameras were acting as a deterrent and there were no acts of vandalism to report since they were put up.

At St. Patrick’s church in Kilashee, County Longford, volunteers are on standby every Sunday to direct traffic parking for mass along the busy N63 Longford to Roscommon road.

The Parish believe this has been instrumental in safe-guarding against theft from cars and protecting people from approaching traffic.
