Farmers in Leitrim and surrounding counties are being urged to attend a special IFA Meeting in Carrick on Shannon tonight.
The meeting will discuss the review of Areas of Natural Constraint, or ANC scheme.
The initiative was originally devised as the Disadvantaged Area Scheme to help farmers in areas where there is poorer quality of land, but it is now called the Areas of Natural Constraint, or ANC.
The EU has been claiming the payments may be proportionately too high, when compared to the income that farmers in less disadvantaged areas are getting.
The Department of Agriculture has to carry out a review of all the land designations as a result and local farmers are being warned that this could result in some areas being excluded.
Leitrim IFA Chairman James Gallagher has appealed to farmers to attend tonight’s meeting to make their feelings clear to local TD’s who will be there.
