Shannon Key West hotel to be re-sold after liquor licence success

The sale of the old Shannon Key West Hotel at Rooskey is expected to be progressed following a successful application for a liquor licence

At Carrick-on-Shannon Circuit Court today, James Kiernan applied for a seven-day licence to sell intoxicating liquor at the well-known establishment.

In 2012, Mr Kiernan, from Blackrock in Dublin, bought the 39-bedroom hotel for €400,000 at an auction

It was liquidated in 2011, with the loss of 20 jobs, having been very popular with country music fans, and  has been vacant since then.

Mr Kiernan told today’s court sitting that he initially bought the hotel with the intention of opening it himself.

However, he has since decided to sell it and a sale has been agreed, subject to the application before the court today.

Judge John O’Hagan awarded the licencing certificate after a slight amendment was agreed, while Mr Kiernan declined to comment to Shannonside FM afterwards.
