Proposed Carrick nursing home could create 100 jobs

The large nursing home planned for Carrick-on-Shannon would create 100 jobs.

In the newly available planning file, it’s revealed Leitrim County Council is currently in the process of selling the land to the developer.

Last month, Castlecarra Healthcare applied for planning permission to develop a three-storey nursing home, measuring 8,400 square metres, at Aghameeney in Carrick-on-Shannon.

It would accommodate 135 beds.

Castlecarra Healthcare has an address in Ballycoolin, Dublin, with Frank McManus its company director.

It claims the proposed development is intended to address a growing need for modern nursing home facilities in Carrick, noting the town is currently served by St Patrick’s Hospital.

The agent claims nursing home requirements in the region are expected to increase by 152 beds in the next four years.

It says the development is being specified to a particularly high standard in terms of accommodation for residents, compared to existing facilities.

Castlecarra Healthcare claims it has a significant background in the development of nursing homes and construction would start immediately if planning is granted.

It also says the development would bring a significant benefit to the local economy, generating about 100 jobs and €3.6 million in wages.

Leitrim County Council owns the 1.3-hectare site in question, but it’s in the process of selling it to Mr McManus and has given him permission to make the planning application.

A decision on whether to grant planning is due by October 25th.
