The Justice Minister has confirmed that a report into the possible renovation of the roof of Ballinamore courthouse has been received by the OPW.
Charlie Flanagan has confirmed to Sligo-Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon that the report needed to be presented to the OPW before any work could possibly begin.
The building, built in the early 1800s, was originally under the care of Leitrim County Council, but was passed on to the Courts Service in 2005.
It is currently in poor condition, and it was hoped that work on the building would begin in 2017 to prevent any further damage to its roof and interior.
However, it now appears that the earliest any work on the historic building can take place is 2018 after the Justice Minister confirmed that the courts service will decide on their course of action in relation to the building after considering the recently delivered engineer’s report.
