Minister accused of reneging on Aughavas post office

Leitrim Sinn Fein deputy Martin Kenny is accusing Fine Gael Minister of State Michael Ring of rowing back on the issue of Aughavas Post Office.

Deputy Kenny was speaking after a public meeting that was held in Aughavas on last Friday night to show local support for keeping the post office open.

There are fears the service will close in the village after the resignation of the current postmistress and the sale of the current premises.

Deputy Martin Kenny said that when he had first spoken to Minister of State Ring about the concerns, the Fine Gael politician appeared committed to having the service retained.

However, he said that when he last spoke to the Minister, who has responsibility for regional economic development, Deputy Ring was putting the blame at An Post’s door.
