A Sligo-Leitrim TD has defended his acceptance of a controversial pay increase being offered to TDs since the beginning of this month.
Marc McSharry is among five Dáil members across the Shannonside region that are due to accept the controversial €2,700 increase, which is the first half of a two-part package with another €2,700 due to be paid to them next January.
Deputy McSharry, as well as Tony McLoughlin and Longford-Westmeath deputies Robert Troy, Willie Penrose and Peter Burke, all indicated to Shannonside FM they will accept the pay rise.
