Martin Kenny denies he is interested in running for European Parliament

Leitrim Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says he is only concentrating on Irish political matters as speculation links him with a run at securing a European Parliament seat next year.

The Aughavas man has been tipped to be a possible candidate for next year’s European election after Sinn Fein confirmed Matt Carthy will be one of two candidates to try to replace Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin in Cavan-Monaghan at the next General Election.

Ireland is set to gain two new MEPs as a result of Britain’s exit from the EU but it is unclear yet as to which constituencies those MEPs will be allocated.

The former Leitrim county councillor has already been selected as a candidate for Sinn Fein in the Sligo-Leitrim constituency in the next general election and told today’s Let’s Talk show that preparing for that election is his main focus at present:
