Lidl says it’s disappointed with the decision from An Bord Pleanála to refuse permission for a new store in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Bord rejected the proposal, for a site on the Dublin road opposite the former MBNA building, saying it would have a negative impact on the retail vitality and viability of Carrick and is within a flood plain of the Shannon.
It also said there was no robust and comprehensive proposal for the existing supermarket, which could become a ‘planning blight’ in the area.
Lidl say it will make a decision regarding next steps after careful consideration.
However, local campaigner Gerry Murtagh is hopeful the supermarket chain will not take plans for this site any further.
