Leitrim Gardai express concern at rise in burglaries in the county

Superintendent Kevin English accepts he’s concerned at the substantial increase in burglaries in Leitrim this year.

At yesterday’s meeting of Leitrim Joint Policing Committee, it was revealed that assaults, criminal damage, drink-driving and holding of a mobile phone while driving had all risen in 2017.

Public-order incidents have, however, dropped slightly, including in Carrick-on-Shannon.

But the most notable trend in Leitrim this year is that burglaries have increased by 73 per cent, with the biggest rise in Carrick.

Superintendent English admits he’s worried about the increase, but Inspector Denis Harrington claims the perpetrators are being brought to justice.
