The IDA has been accused of only giving scraps from its’ table to counties like Roscommon where nearly six hectares of IDA land is lying idle.
New figures show that the IDA has 4.63 hectares in Roscommon Business Park, and 1.17 in Castlerea with a further 11 hectares of land unused in Athlone Park, Garrycastle.
In Co. Leitrim there’s 10.25 hectares of the investment agency’s land vacant and in Co. Longford there’s just over three hectares at Longford’s Industrial Estate and Aghafad.
Local TD Eugene Murphy claims the State sponsored body is not maximising their stock of buildings and land to bring well-paying jobs to rural areas.
He says that statistics he received in answer to a parliamentary question reveal that two out of every three IDA premises or lands were unoccupied at the end of 2017.
