The Irish Dental Association says the orthodontic service within the HSE is hugely suffering as a result of the cutbacks and the moratorium on recruitment.
It’s figure show that hundreds of patients from the Shannonside region are waiting for treatment with the HSE for up to four years.
In the HSE West region, which covers Leitrim and Sligo 27 people are on lists for over four years while 447 were in a similar position in the Dublin mid west region which includes the counties of Longford and Westmeath.
Meanwhile, the Irish Dental Association says there are long term implications for children who don’t get seen at a young age.
