Animal charities in the Shannonside region are set to benefit from an extra half a million euro in funding announced by the Minister for Agriculture.
Over 2.5 million euro is being divided among over one hundred animal welfare groups nationwide, including eight organisations across Longford, Roscommon and Leitrim.
The ISPCA’s centre based in Kenagh received the single largest sum of €375,000, while The Hungry Horse Outside group based in Newtownforbes is to receive €75,000.
The Athlone and West SPCA received €5,000 with €17,000 to be provided for the work of the Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre in Drumkeeran.
Longford’s SPCA in the Market Square is to benefit from €23,000 while €20,000 has been earmarked for the re-established Roscommon SPCA which is based in Castlerea and €3,000 for TNR South Roscommon.
The Fairyglen Community Animal Sanctuary in Arigna in Leitrim also received €10,000 and Marie Healy told Shannonside FM it’s a huge boost
