Forestry campaigners attend Leitrim council meeting

Anti-forestry protesters have held a demonstration outside this morning’s Leitrim County Council meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The Save Leitrim group is hoping the local authority will agree to a number of motions from councillors today at its monthly meeting proposing to put limits on the forestry industry in the county.

The council has come under increasing pressure in recent months as fears grow in communities of increasing afforestation across Leitrim.

Save Leitrim spokesperson Edwina Guckian explains why the group decided to bring their protest to the council offices.
