The birth of the first whiskey to be distilled in Connacht in over a century will be officially celebrated today at the Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo.
The Distillery marks a return to traditional distillation using medieval copper stills, and has brewed gins and vodka in addition to the whiskey being launched today.
The enterprise also received funding earlier this year for a visitor centre at the site and plans for it will also be announced today.
It’s expected to cover over 6,000 sq. feet and create up to 10 jobs at full capacity.
Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring will visit the Distillery today to mark the opening of the new whiskey.
