A local businessman is slamming plans for a new Lidl store to be built on a controversial site in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Last December the chain was refused planning permission to develop a supermarket at Attyrory and Attifinlay, which is bounded by the N4 and the Circular Road.
One of the reasons for the refusal was that Lidl hadn’t a specified use for its store at Cortober, which would be closed.

Yet last week Lidl was given permission to turn this into a car sales showroom and gym.
Now it’s reapplying for a two-storey store to be built on the Leitrim side of the town.
Local businessman Fintan Cox strongly objects, claiming the site was given to the Leitrim County Council by the Coleman family for sporting and community use.
