Emerald Star insists there’s nothing wrong with its docks in Carrick-on-Shannon where two people drowned.
The company says an investigation conducted after the tragedy uncovered no areas of concern and that it’s fully compliant with local standards.
Married couple Frank and Alexandra Dunne died in March when their bodies were recovered from the River Shannon while on a cruising holiday.
At yesterday’s inquest, the jury recorded an open verdict, while toxicology results showed high concentrations of alcohol in their bloodstreams.
The jury also recommended the marina be better lit.
In a statement, Emerald Star, which hired a boat to the Dunnes for their holiday, says it conducted its own review of operations in Carrick-on-Shannon after the incident.
It says it’s fully satisfied the Emerald Star docks, which form part of the overall marina in the town, are fully compliant with local standards.
It adds that no areas of concern were identified.
The company says the safety of its customers is of paramount importance and extends its sympathy, thoughts and condolences to the victims’ families.
