Almost half of all deaths in Leitrim in 2015 were due to heart disease or heart attacks according to information from the CSO.

According to new figures, of the 183 people who passed away in the county in 2015 – the underlying cause of death for 90 individuals was disease of the circulatory system.

Cancer was the cause of 43 percent of all deaths in the county in the same year.

Figures for 2015 also show that the number of people who died in Roscommon was twice that of Leitrim and Longford – 524 compared to 183 and 192 restively.

29 per cent of the deaths in Roscommon two years ago were cancer-related while diseases of the circulatory system accounted for thirty-two percent of all deaths in the county that year.
