Over one hundred and forty inspections of employment law at companies in the Shannonside region have taken place so far this year.
The figures were released by the Minister for Jobs and Enterprise Frances Fitzgerald recently following a query from TD Niall Collins.
The second lowest number of inspections occurred in Roscommon, where just 35 companies have been inspected so far this year to ensure they comply with employment and employers’ regulations.
69 inspections took place in Longford, with 43 recorded in Leitrim up to the end of last month.
Since 2014, five companies in the Shannonside region have been prosecuted following WRC inspections examining compliance with employment law, with the most recent case in Roscommon last year.
