A Latvian woman has gone on trial accused of impeding a murder investigation by making it look like a suicide.
34 year old Egita Juanmaize of no fixed address has pleaded not guilty.
In opening the case, the Prosecuting barrister said in June 2014 the body of 49 year old Antra Ozolina was found in her shower at her home in Kilnaleck in Co Cavan.
She had a blue nylon rope around her neck and at first death wasn’t deemed as suspicious.
It would be alleged the assistant State Pathologist than carried out an autopsy and established there was evidence of blunt force injury to the deceased woman and her cause of death was neck compression.
While the Prosecuting barrister said an engineer will tell the court the shower rail couldn’t have taken the weight of the deceased woman – so she didn’t kill herself.
The accused Egita Juanmaize lived with Ms Ozalina and it would be alleged she originally told gardai she had gone to bed after having a row with her and then found her body the next day.
It would be alleged -she later said her boyfriend had killed Ms Ozalina and she had put the rope around the neck of the dead woman to make it look like a suicide – as she was in fear for her life.
