A new Oireachtas report is calling for the public to be more involved in the running of the Dail.
The Oireachtas Committee on electoral reform has just finished a report which is making 27 recommendations to the Government on how our voting system can be improved and more inclusive.
All members of the Committee agreed that the proportional representation system serves the country very well.
However, it recommends that the county electoral boundaries may need to be looked at again, the age of voting should be reduced to 17 from 18 and there is a need for women to be encouraged to get involved in politics.
Speaking on Let's Talk today, Sligo North Leitrim TD, Jimmy Devins, who is on the Committee said the establishment of a citizen's assembly is also an important development.
