Contracts for two major school developments in the Shannonside Region are been put out to the market.
The Department of Education has today given approval to the National Development Finance Agency to begin the procurement process for a new school in Ballinamore in County Leitrim and the replacement of Athlone Community College.
The projects in Ballinamore and Athlone are part of a third bundle of schools under the Public Private Partnership which was announced in late 2008.
Today the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan announced that this bundle is now ready to be offered to the market.
Subject to the tendering process, it is expected that construction on these schools will begin in early 2012.
