A Longford priest says creating a union to represent priests could be a good thing in the long term.
Members of the clergy are being actively canvassed around the country by a group of priests disillusioned at not having a public voice.
They are seeking to set up an association to represent their views.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Fr. Brian Darcy said if the new association works, it will give priests a chance to voice concerns that they may have been afraid to express before on their own.
However he warns that it should not just be a talking-shop for priests.
Fr. Joe McGrath, Chaplain at St. Mel's College in Longford says he would be interested in attending the next meeting of the group to see how it would work.
