Local Authorities in the Shannonside Region are to get a funding boost of 635 thousand euro.
Its part of a package of over 20 million euro in additional grant aid and aims to ensure a high quality water supply within each county.
Under this new tranche of funds announced by the Environment Minister John Gormley, County Leitrim is being allocated the highest amount in this region with a boost of 291 thousand euro.
Roscommon features next with an allocation of 206 thousand followed by Longford where 138 thousand is being awarded to the Local Authority there.
The funding aims to help with the running costs of local water and sewerage treatment plants and the necessary sampling costs.
It also covers the cost of licence applications to the Environmental Protection Agency for wastewater discharges.
This money is on top of the Local Government Fund grants of 870 million euro, announced to authorities earlier this year.
The announcements have been welcomed by local political representatives across the region.
