Childrens Charity Barnardo’s has made a submission last Friday for the McKeon park childcare service in Longford town.
The childcare centre closed in February last year and since then many of the 50 children it had catered for have been without any service, because no places could be found for them in other facilities.
Efforts have been ongoing for the past year to try to get another group in to run the service, but the lack of funds being made available for the centre meant that no one could not afford to take it on.
Minister Katherine Zappone confirmed in March this year that she was making one-off funding available for the start-up of the service in order to progress the situation.
Longford/Westmeath Fianna Fail Deputy Robert Troy says he’s happy happy to see Barnardo’s make the application.
He’s also warning though that funding must be on an ongoing basis to ensure the future of the McKeon Park centre.
